A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a Korean taeguk (scarlet at the top, blue in base) surmounting a scarlet pick mattock and scarlet shovel crossed diagonally with heads up and the mattock to the left, and between the heads at the top and below at each side three blue stars above a silver laurel wreath overall in base, all in front of three silver towers the center one terminating at the top of the device between two small towers below the tool heads; and in base overall a curved scarlet scroll inscribed "PACE SETTERS" in silver letters.
Scarlet and white (silver) are colors used for the Corps of Engineers. The three stars refer to the three wars for which the Group received campaign awards: World War I, World War II and the Korean War. The taeguk from the flag of the Republic of Korea and the laurel wreath commemorate the two Meritorious Unit Commendations, Korea. The organization's engineer construction mission is indicated by the towers and the basic construction tools mattock and shovel. The two tools also allude to the numerical designation.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 24 September 1969.
